Depending on the soil, dig outs in preparation for asphalt surfaces can remain soft which may lead to instability once the asphalt is laid. To counter this, a road base that is mixed with cement may be a good option for a more stable underlay for asphalt. Cement treated road base mixes obviously harden and can be compacted to form a firmer base. This means that the asphalt overlay will be more durable especially when subject to vehicle traffic. This will lead to longer lasting asphalt surface that stand up to heavier use.
